– Partisans (6:24) –

(Pietro Cottone)

“Partisans” is a song which encourages to fight strongly against the oppression of man over man. This song is the story of the resistance to Nazi occupation by a group of partisans during a frigid winter in Ronco, a tiny northern Italy village located in a pre-alpine hill. The Nazis are occupying Ronco. During the occupation, villagers were killed and pillaged by the Nazis. A group of partisans, mostly Alpine mountaineers, resist into a farmhouse and fought for freedom until their last breath.

Lyrics:

Nazis occupy the village

Mountaineers get killed and pillaged

Partisans are barricaded and won’t desist

Inside a farmhouse, they are locked in

Guns in shaky hands they are keeping

Ready to defend their freedom and families

Snow is deep and nightfall’s coming

A frightened, freezing sentry’s watching

Tears of ice are falling down his bearded cheeks

Shooting starts and heartbeat rises

Fight or die, there are no excuses

An old man boosts his mates by shouting loud:

“Fight strong, until your time is up

Fight strong, until can’t breathe, until you cannot stand up

Fight strong, don’t bow your head down

Fight strong, until your lifeless body falls to the ground

Fight strong, until your time’s up

Fight strong, until your heart no longer will beat it up

Fight strong, until your life flies

Fight strong, until no longer can you open your eyes”

Nazis are progressing further

A hundred uniforms get closer

Partisans are on the edge of life and death

Dark is lightened by guns firing

Bloody, lifeless bodies falling

The old man keeps on boosting up his mates:

“Fight strong, until your time is up

Fight strong, until can’t breathe, until you cannot stand up

Fight strong, don’t bow your head down

Fight strong, until your lifeless body falls to the ground

Fight strong, until your time’s up

Fight strong, until your heart no longer will beat it up

Fight strong, until your life flies

Fight strong, until no longer can you open your eyes”
